City Govt Quickly Handles Collapsed Embankments for Safety of Residents

The Jakarta Water Resources Agency (SDA) recorded five collapsed embankments and three landslides in South Jakarta. This is due to high water discharge in several river flows and connecting channels after heavy rains in recent days.

Jakarta Water Resources Agency Secretary, Hendri said, his team had been deployed to all points of the embankment's damage.

According to him, emergency response was done already by building temporary dikes using sand-filled sacks to hold back floodwaters in affected areas.

"Currently, we are focusing on preventing water runoff from spreading into residential areas," he expressed, Sunday (2/11).

Aside that, wooden stakes and sandbags were installed at landslide points as a temporary measure. Especially for Jalan Adityawarman, permanent retaining walls would be constructed to strengthen the riverbank structure.

"Repair is expected to take between two to three months, depending on weather conditions and water levels at the site," he explained.

They are also calculating the estimated repair costs and inspecting the embankments at other critical points to prevent further damage and potential flooding.

He added that the Jakarta government is committed to making comprehensive improvements to flood control infrastructure, especially in vulnerable areas such as South Jakarta.

"Hopefully, this improvement will be maximized to minimize flood risks and ensure the safety of residents remains maintained. Cross-agency coordination is also ongoing to accelerate on-site handling," he hoped.

The following are the details of the damaged dam locations:

• Collapsed Embankment:

The embankment at Kemang Urban Village (Kemang Lippo Mall) from the flow of Kali Krukut River, 13.5 meters long.

Baswedan embankment in Jatipadang, Pasar Minggu from the Pulo Connecting Channel, Sabili side is 25 meters long and the empty land side is 25 meters (total 40 meters).

Embankment in Kali Krukut River segment at Plaza Bisnis Kemang is 30 meters long.

Then the embankment on Jalan Kemang Utara IX, Mampang Prapatan from the Kali Mampang River channel is six meters long.

Embankment on Jalan Taman Kemang Bangka (next to Wisma Anugraha) from the Kali Krukut River flow, three meters long.

• Lan dslide Embankment:

Embankment on Jalan Kemuning, Pejaten Timur, Pasar Minggu from the Kali Ciliwung River flow, six meters long.

Embankment on Jalan Gunuk Raya, Pejaten Timur, Pasar Minggu from the Kali Ciliwung River flow, 14 meters long.

Embankment on Jalan Adityawarman, Selong, Kebayoran Baru, from the flow of Adityawarman Connecting Channel, 25 meters long.

The damage to the embankment was caused by high water flow pressure in Kali Krukut River, Kali Mampang River, and Pulo Connecting Channel. Meanwhile, the landslide occurred due to erosion of the embankment wall by extreme rainfall.
